This is a Great Blue Heron in flight, a rare and beautiful sight. I took this picture at Captiva Island, Florida, last year, July 2009. A blue heron in flight makes my heart sing. But I have mixed feelings: once they fly away, you can't stare at their beautiful bird selves. The little white escort birds are seagulls.
